Il santuario di Eshmun/Esculapio. Campagna di scavo 2018

Abstract

During the archaeological excavation in 2018, the University of Padua excavated in the pronaos (area 1) of the Temple of Aesculapius and started to analyze the more ancient evidences of the area. The first phases of the sanctuary are represented by two parallel masonry structures made of stone pebbles held together by clay combined with four different floorings made of raw and burnt clay or stone splinters. The second phase is represented by thick layers of clay, which are the collapsed walls of the first phase, and layers of cancellation of the previous structures. In the last phase, the sanctuary was reconstructed in the current shape, with the distyle in antis pronaos behind the big mosaic terrace.
