L’edificio a est del foro (saggio PO). Campagne di scavo 2018-2019

Nel biennio 2018-2019 è proseguita la lettura stratigrafica e planimetrica condotta dall’Università di Padova presso il complesso edilizio di età romana imperiale, situato oltre il limite orientale del foro e a sud-ovest della c.d. Casa Sarda (saggio PO). Le indagini si sono articolate su più fronti, approfondendo lo scavo nel settore nord-occidentale del complesso (vani I, XI, XII), presso i suoi limiti sud-occidentale (vani III, XIII) e sud-orientale (vano VII) e praticando un ampliamento verso est dell’area d’intervento, che ha messo in luce varie evidenze strutturali, fra cui un ambiente absidato (vano XIV). L’asporto dei livelli di crollo ha restituito informazioni sugli alzati murari in crudo rivestiti di intonaco dipinto, sull’assetto del primo piano dell’edificio e sull’articolazione della copertura degli ambienti. La presenza di vari varchi tamponati e di numerosi frammenti di osso semi-lavorato nei livelli di abbandono hanno infine gettato nuova luce sulle ultime fasi di frequentazione del complesso.In 2018 and 2019 the University of Padova carried on an archaeological survey of the Roman Imperial building situated beyond the eastern edge of the forum and southeast of the so-called Casa Sarda (PO area). The survey was conducted in different areas: the excavation was carried on with a focus on the northwestern area of the building (rooms I, XI, XII) and on its southwestern (rooms III, XIII) and southeastern (room VII) edges, and the excavation area was expanded eastward, which brought to light several structural evidences, including an apsidal room (room XIV). The removal of the layers of collapse revealed information about walls made of mud-bricks covered with painted plaster, the layout of the first floor and the articulation of the roof of the rooms. Finally, the presence of various closed passages and numerous fragments of semi-worked bones in the abandonment deposits shed light on the last phases of occupancy of the building.
