Roman trash in Punic tombs (Nora, Sardinia): the 2021 campaign

Durante le campagne di scavo 2014/2015 dell’Università di Padova nella necropoli punica di Nora sono state scavate, tra le altre, due tombe puniche che contenevano riempimenti di età romana. Mentre delle sepolture originali non è rimasta quasi nessuna traccia, gli strati di riempimento di età romana contenevano un’elevata percentuale di ceramica vascolare e macerie edili. I riempimenti scavati saranno elaborati e documentati come parte di un progetto interuniversitario con l’Università Ruhr di Bochum. A questo scopo, nel settembre 2021 sono stati completati l’ordinamento, la categorizzazione, il disegno, la fotografia, la descrizione delle ceramiche e la registrazione delle informazioni in un database. Successivamente, le ceramiche saranno analizzate e datate. I risultati getteranno luce sulle attività di età romana nel corso dell’espansione della città nell’ex area della necropoli di Nora - la sua datazione, i suoi rifiuti esistenti, la sua pratica lavorativa.During the 2014/2015 excavation campaigns of the University of Padua in the Punic necropolis of Nora, among other, two Punic tombs were excavated, which contained a Roman refill. Whereas hardly any traces were left of the original burials, most of its contents consisted of filling layers from the Roman period with a high proportion of vessel ceramics and building rubble. The excavated fillings could now be processed and documented as part of an inter-university project in cooperation with the Ruhr University Bochum. For this purpose, in September 2021 the sorting, categorising, drawing, photographing, describing of the ceramics as well as the recording of the information into a database was accomplished. In the further course, the pottery will be analysed and dated. The results will provide a spotlight on Roman work in the course of the city expansion in the former necropolis area of the ancient city of Nora - its dating, its existing rubbish, its working practice.
